Lifestyle Design: Life Doesn't Have to Happen in Just One Place
How many more summers will you have when your children or grandchildren are still young enough for the whole family to spend time together? Where have you always dreamed of waking up and enjoying a coffee at sunrise? What would you really like your life to look like?
To me, lifestyle design means moving beyond the idea that life has to revolve around a single place.
Some families have chosen to make more than one place their own. A city they return to every year, spending weeks or months there until it becomes more than a destination — it becomes part of who they are. A village in the countryside or a home by the sea, where the pace of life, the ideas and even the conversations are different.
A lifestyle residence in Spain is much more than a holiday home:
- It's where your children learn to play golf or tennis alongside friends from around the world.
- It's where new conversations, projects and business opportunities emerge — opportunities that might never have arisen in your everyday surroundings.
- It's where a city, village, beach or mountain retreat stops being somewhere you visit on holiday and becomes part of your everyday life.
That's why location takes on a different meaning. It's no longer just about capital appreciation. It's about choosing the surroundings, people, pace of life and opportunities you want to become part of your family's story.
My work is to help people make better property decisions.
The simplest way to begin is with a conversation. We sit down and explore how property investment and architecture can enrich the life you want to live.
Together, we find a place that inspires you, select the right property and design a home around your lifestyle. You own it, enjoy it whenever you wish and earn rental income when you're not using it, while Pontblanc takes care of the rest.
Building wealth and enjoying life shouldn't be two separate decisions
Pontblanc Selection
Imagine arriving in June. The evening sun is settling over the hills of Casares, the air carries the scent of jasmine and the distant sea, and your home is waiting for you. Whitewashed walls, warm stone, a pool reflecting the sky and a terrace where life moves at a gentler pace.
Top 3 News 🗞
1. Rental prices keep rising, but every property is different
Key Details
Average asking rents in Spain rose by 5.6% year on year in October, reaching €15.1/m² per month. In Madrid, asking rents reached €23.4/m², according to the latest rental market report.
Implications
For families looking to enjoy a second home while renting it out for part of the year, strong rental demand is encouraging, but it doesn't guarantee a return.
I would calculate realistic income based on personal use, running costs, management fees and local regulations. It's also worth remembering that seasonal lets in Spain must serve a genuine temporary housing need.
2. Mortgage lending grows, but flexibility still matters
Key Details
A total of 33,841 residential mortgages were registered in August, up 2.3% on the previous year. The average interest rate on new mortgages was 3.08%, according to figures published on 26 October.
Implications
If a property is intended for both family stays and rental income, I wouldn't base the financing on the assumption that it will be occupied all year round.
I prefer manageable repayments and enough liquidity to preserve the freedom to enjoy the home whenever the family wants to.
3. A Madrid exhibition explores what makes a house a home
Key Details
Until 8 November, Madrid's National Museum of Decorative Arts is presenting Toda mi casa es un altar (My Entire House Is an Altar) by Gema Polanco.
The installation uses textiles, everyday objects and the museum's architecture to explore the personal and emotional meaning of home [3].
Implications
A lifestyle residence shouldn't feel like a hotel room recreated in another city.
I believe the best homes have a distinct identity, where materials, art and personal memories come together to make the family feel at home from the moment they arrive.

Building Wealth
Property markets and capital allocation
Capital allocation: Before choosing a lifestyle residence, I would establish how often the family intends to use it and what role it should play in their overall wealth. The appeal of a destination should always be supported by a thorough assessment of the property and its purchase price.
Financing and liquidity: The latest average mortgage rate is a useful reminder to look carefully at monthly repayments and ongoing costs [2]. Rental income can help offset these expenses and, in certain locations, may even make the purchase financially viable.
Supply, demand and property quality: Asking rents continue to rise. I would look for locations with proven demand, attractive amenities or destinations nearby, and architecture that makes people genuinely want to spend time there.
Enjoying Life
Trends in design, culture and wellbeing
Design, the senses, wellbeing and health: A home designed for extended stays should make everyday pleasures feel effortless: breakfast in the sunshine, peaceful nights, cooking together and spending time outdoors. Orientation, ventilation and comfort matter far more than an impressive photograph.
Beauty and art at home: Bringing art into your home is always a good idea. A carefully chosen piece can also become a daily reminder of the values and memories a family holds dear.
Lifestyle in Madrid, Marbella and Sotogrande: Madrid can become a family's second home city; Marbella, a place to enjoy extended stays by the Mediterranean; and Sotogrande, a setting for sport, nature and time together. I would choose a destination for the life and experiences it makes possible, rather than its prestige alone.
Final Thoughts
Rental income and financing help us understand the numbers [1][2], but they don't answer the most important question: What place would we love to make part of our lives?
My recommendation is to begin with the experiences and moments we want to share. Then find the right location, a beautifully designed home and a purchase price that allows us to enjoy it with peace of mind.
